Displaced Brewery Fanatics Are a Year Older

At some point during 2006, the Displaced Brewery Fanatics homebrewers club reached the one-year mark. Like a well-aged IPA, the club keeps getting better with time. Raise a mug of ale and toast our success!

Welcome to the DBF Website, your home page for homebrewers on Detroit's east side. Our members are spread over Grosse Pointe, Harper Woods, St. Clair Shores and Eastpointe. Here is a brief history. Desperately in need of a place to meet after the Detroit Brew Factory closed its doors, several local area home brewers decided to form a club and hold regular meetings at the Park Winery, sustaining their mutual fondness of home-style beer making. Using the Detroit Brew Factory's DBF moniker, the new group chose to name itself the Displaced Brewery Fanatics, creating its logo after the old DBF's design.

The fact that the club meets at the Park Winery is no coincidence. The co-owner of the winemaking shop, Sandy Harville, is the former owner of the Detroit Brew Factory. For the do-it-yourself home brewer, The Winery, which holds a license for making wine on premises, offers a large assortment of equipment and supplies, from lagers to ales, grains to yeasts, and hops to specialty ingredients.

The DBF meets monthly, allowing members to share recipes, tips and samples of their homemade beers. At past meetings, club members offered up demonstrations of stages in the beer-making process and constructing homebrewing equipment. DBF members have a wide range of knowledge and experience in brewing, from novice to professional. In addition to holding regular meetings, the club holds brewing events throughout the year, and members gather to brew together while eating great food and drinking great homebrew.
