DBF's First Annual BrewBQ

The Displaced Brew Fans held its first annual BrewBQ brew party in Ed Stone's driveway on October 22. Based on the success of the event, the DBF will need to host semi-annual BrewBQs!

For many, this fantastic event evoked warm memories of beer-making at the Detroit Brew Factory. Beer aficionados assembling for a common purpose – the joy of brewing beer!

Bob set up a canopy in the driveway to guard the brew pots against possible rain, and Ed provided another tent to cover the food table. Fortunately, it did not rain, but adding a tarp to the side of the canopy over the kettles did help keep the warm air around the work area.

In total, there were four brew pots going. Ed made a Russian Imperial Stout plus a Centennial Ale like the Detroit Brew Factory favorite. Jay brewed a batch of IPA while Tom boiled up a Brown Ale.

The real treat of the day had to be Gary's skills on the grill. He coaxed a most-delectable barbecue sauce out secret ingredients that include Korean hot peppers grown right in Ed's backyard. Gary spread this sauce over the pork ribs that he grilled to perfection. He covered a second grill with bratwurst, another favorite accompaniment to beer.

Several members brought side dishes to go with the grilled food. For anyone who missed this event, Al Seaglo's deviled eggs are a real treat and should be an added incentive to attend the Displaced Brewery Fanatics' next BrewBQ. Hopefully, we will not wait until next year to repeat this successful brew day.

Until then, keep brewing!
